Day 1
Fly from the UK to Amman, where you'll be met and transferred to your Amman hotel for a four night stay.
Day 2
Spend the morning touring Jerash, the Classical city which is almost as impressive as Petra, before moving on to Ajloun to see the Arab castle there, and to Umm Qais, another ancient city dramatically located with views over the Sea of Galilee, before concluding with the small but attractive temple of Pella on the edge of the Jordan Valley.
Day 3
In a loop east of Amman lie a series of early Islamic bathhouses and country retreats used by the Ummayad elites and now known as the Desert Castles; on the way back to Amman, visit the relatively unknown and intriguing temple called Iraq Al-Amir.
Day 4
Tour the capital today, taking in the temples and mosques atop the main hill dominating the city as well as some of the city's museums.
Day 5
You head down the King's Highway to Petra for a four night stay, stopping at Madaba to admire the mosaics, Mukawir to see where Salome danced for the head of John the Baptist, and Kerak, arguably the most imposing and impressive Crusader Castle in the Middle East.
Day 6
You have a tour of the ancient city of Petra today, beginning along the Siq Canyon, to the Treasury Tomb and through the heart of the site to the huge Qasr El Bint temple.
Day 7
Visit Little Petra this morning, and if you're feeling active climb over the mountains into the back route to Petra via The Monastery.
Day 8
Head back into the site under your own steam today to explore at your leisure. Take in some of the churches near the main street, or for the active, head up to The Monastery or Place of High Sacrifice. For the adventurous there's the option to leave via the Tunnel Siq.
Day 9
Head back up the King's Highway to The Dead Sea, stopping at the deliciously un-excavated Crusader castle of Shobak and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Umm er-Rasas to view the amazing mosaics there. Spend three nights at The Dead Sea.
Day 10
Visit Bethany-on-the-Jordan today where a series of churches and baptism pools have been excavated at the site of Christ's baptism.
Day 11
A second day at leisure to relax by the pool and take some spa treatments or perhaps visit the nearby Dead Sea Panoramic Complex.
Day 12
You have a transfer back to Amman Airport today for your flight back to the UK.

As a country that’s been conquered, contested and coveted by so many of history’s great civilisations, Jordan has a remarkable trove of historical sites and this itinerary aims to showcase them in all their glory. In the north we see Classical cities like Jerash, and the early Islamic monuments of the Desert Castles, before following Herod and the Crusaders down the King’s Highway to Petra. On the way back to Amman we sweep up the remaining sites of the King’s Highway and look at some more Biblical history before heading home.
